Pit Bull Awareness Day!!!!!!!!!!!

This breed has been so misunderstood over the years.  I feel as a responsible pit bull owner that in order to change the public's perception, we must educate the public regarding the endearing qualities of the breed that have been exploited for various other reasons.

Myth:  Pit bulls can turn on their owners.

Fact:  Any dog that has been abused or neglected can turn on their owners and become vicious.  Pit bulls are extremely loyal and devoted to their "people".  They are incredibly loving and are called the "nanny dogs" for their gentleness and passive demeanor around children.

Myth:  Pit bulls are bred to fight so that instinct is ingrained into them.

Fact:  Pit bulls were originally bred to fight, but they were also bred as working farm beasts and family pets.  The so called "fighting instinct" is their natural tenacity that is exploited to turn them into fighting machines.   Pit bulls will not necessarily start a fight, but their natural tenacity will allow them to finish the fight.

Myth:  Pit bulls are aggressive and vicious by nature.

Fact:  Pit bulls and pit bull type dogs can be aggressive due to poor handling, abuse, and poor training.  All of the bully breeds including the Boxer, Doberman Pinscher, and bull dogs can exhibit aggressive behavior.   Although, if properly socialized with people and other dogs, aggressive behavior most likely will not be a problem.  Pit bulls scored higher on the American Temperment Test than Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, and German Shepherds.  83.9% was the Pit Bull's average score.

So, on October 25 please be nice to a pit bull.  They truly are a misunderstood dog.  As a responsible owner, I feel that owning a dog that is an embassador for the breed is very essential to reshaping the public's ideals surrounding them.   Bishop will be availa-bull for pettings and such on that day. If you've never met a pittie then feel free to contact me to see a great dog in action.   I'm not sure yet, but I've heard rumblings that there will be a bully march on GR that day.  If so, Bishop and I are going to be out promoting the breed.
